Johannesburg 30 April 2010I made my way back to Johannesburg and stay in a brand new hotel called Life Hotels Johannesburg Airport. I booked this hotel from the UK because I wanted to be near the airport for my flight the next morning. Boy! Did I get what I wanted. My first thought was that I wouldn't need to drive to the airport, I could just cross the motorway and get straight on the plane! In the centre of this hotel was a court yard, which amused me. In this courtyard were some couches with umbrellas over. I wondered how how long it would take before they would get totally ruined in the rain. In front of these couches were some garden tables & chairs decorated with ashtrays. However overlooking these tables were excercise bikes! I suppose it gave you the oportunity to have a smoke break while excercising! I met a tour operator for lunch and had a really intersting convesation about Cecil Rhodes and Sir Baden Powell. I had no idea they were connected. Something to do with the Modderfontein Mine. The tour guide lived in the area that used to house the mining staff. On the way back to my hotel he took me past all the places I used to frequent as a small child. It was all very different and only hauntingly familiar.
