DAY 1
Arrive Cape Town
You will be met at the airport and taken to your hotel. The afternoon is free to explore – we suggest you pay a visit to the V&A Waterfront, South Africa’s most visited attraction.
DAY 2:
Lions Head
Discover why Cape Town is the `Mother City'
Any visit to Cape Town should begin with the mother – Table Mountain. In order to fully appreciate the mountain and the mythology around it, the day begins at the foot of Lions Head, the peak between Table Mountain and Signal Hill, along the Table Mountain National Park.
Table Mountain
Ascend Table Mountainby cable car. (Cableway fare and local delicacies included in package. Any additional drinks or snacks excluded). On the top of Table Mountain, you can see the whole city. The guide uses this elevated position to map out the city past present and future. The guide also maps out the next two days of activities.
Lunch with Local Artist
We depart the centre of town for lunch with a Cape Town artist at their studio or home. This is a lovely opportunity to start savouring intimately the art and artists of the city. It is a leisurely affair, talking art, talking Cape Town, and enjoying a meal together.
(all costs included in package, including drinks at lunch)
Inner-City Tour of Key Art Sites
This is the part of the city that was the genesis – the city has expanded dramatically in size, and other parts of the city will be explored over the next day. We'll touch on some of the significant sites and stories of the city's history, and we'll visit the National Gallery, hosted by one of their curators, for a journey through artistic representations of the city of Cape Town, from the very first artistic renditions of the city to future artistic imaginations of the city. You will see the links between the sites visited, and the works in the Gallery. You will also visit some public art sites, for a take on how the city is interacting with art as a public benefit.
(all entrance fees included)
Dinner Private African Music Concert
This event is a perfect welcome to Cape Town. Paradise Grey is Alan Grant's oasis of magic on the slopes of Table Mountain. It is a Cape Dutch heritage home with an award-winning five level garden staggered up the hill. Chef Jason has an acute skill for flavour, and his contemporary innovations on traditional Cape foods are legendary among creative eccentrics in the city who are regulars at the chef's table.
Paradise Grey is a gathering point for many of the city's creative people. We host a dinner party with a private African music concert, and invite some of our artist friends to join us. You will be surrounded by creative people whilst enjoying a four course dinner in the magical garden. Paradise Grey has an exquisite wine list to order from, and also offers local beers.
You will then be taken back to your hotel.
DAY 3:
Art Masterclass
This is a particularly creative day. Drive directly to the studio of an acclaimed Cape Town artist for a masterclass. You will then enjoy lunch with the artist. The nature of the masterclass, and the selected artist, will depend on the artistic desires of the guests.(all costs included )
Township Art Route
The townships are a particularly creative space, fraught as they are with pressing economic needs and challenges. Most of the innovative artists, in any discipline, are based here. Yet while the townships are a legacy of apartheid brutality, they are also the most promising spaces for economic development and opportunity.
Experience the townships through art and artists, meeting some of the most interesting artists around. Explore the role of art in creating social and economic change. Look at developments and ideas that will completely transform the townships as they move into the future. (all costs included)
Dinner
Based on our conversations over these two days together, we can make your dinner arrangements for you. We would like you to experience our favourites, based on your specific likes and dislikes.
Transfers can be arranged. (dinner will be for your own account).
DAY 4:
Free
This day is free or you can choose to do a full day tour of the Winelands
DAY 5:
Grand Peninsula Day Tour
After being collected from your hotel, you will view the exclusive suburbs of Sea Point, Clifton and Camps Bay before continuing via Llandudno to the fishing harbour of Hout Bay. If calm seas prevail, join an optional launch cruise to view the Duiker Island seals and cormorants at close quarters. Travel along the spectacular Chapman’s Peak Drive to Kommetjie, and enter the Cape Point Nature Reserve where you will be taken to the best vantage point to view what is erroneously said to be the meeting place of two mighty oceans. After a stop for lunch (own account), the tour continues to an African penguin colony, the Naval hamlet of Simon’s Town and then continues via Fish Hoek and Kalk Bay to Muizenberg. In the early afternoon visit the famous Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens. Return to the city via Rhodes Drive, which bisects the plush suburbs of Bishopscourt, Claremont and Newlands. The tour terminates at your hotel again in the late afternoon
DAY 6:
Kirstenbosch Gardens or Requests
In the crook of Table Mountain’s verdant Eastern slope lies Cape Town’s most prized natural jewel: the stunning Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens.
There can be no more perfect way to unravel a day than with a leisurely ramble through the rolling lawns and flower gardens of this gentle landscape.
Set against the imposing backdrop of a mountain shaggy with stone pines and silver trees and crowned in mist, Kirstenbosch is an endlessly varied pleasure which never fails to delight.
Wonder around, have lunch or find you own little quiet spot to do some sketching and relaxing.
(Alternatively if there was a place of particular interest spotted while touring that the group would like to visit we possibly could arrange a visit there)
Included – Transportation
